McDonald’s to accept reusable travel mugs for cold beverages in Vancouver
VANCOUVER, July 1, 2022 – Starting today, guests at McDonald’s locations in Vancouver will be able to use their own clean reusable travel mug for cold beverages when ordering at the front counter in restaurant. Guests will avoid the $0.25 cup fee imposed by the City of Vancouver on disposable cups and will also receive an additional $0.10 discount on their beverage.
Guests in Vancouver are the first in the country to have the option to bring their own reusable travel mugs for cold beverages when ordering inside McDonald’s restaurants. The company will be assessing how the Vancouver rollout is received and the potential for introducing the policy in other markets across the country.
The implementation of the Reusable Travel Mug policy for cold beverages in Vancouver is a result of the City of Vancouver’s recent bylaw amendment, pursuant to which restaurants across the city will be required to accept travel mugs from customers in a bid to reduce single-use cups. At McDonald’s Canada, we applaud the efforts made by the City of Vancouver to reduce single-use items.
The Reusable Travel Mug policy for cold beverages is limited to orders placed via Front Counter. A guest cannot use a reusable travel mug for orders placed in the Drive-Thru, at the kiosk, on the McDonald’s mobile app, or through McDelivery®. The policy does not apply to pre-packaged cold beverages, like milk jugs, juice boxes and water bottles.
